This Privacy Policy explains how Catecut (“Catecut,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when a merchant installs and uses the Catecut application (“the App”) on their Shopify store. By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who this policy is for

Catecut is a tool for Shopify merchants that uses AI to generate optimized product titles, descriptions, tags, and SEO metadata. This policy is primarily directed at the merchants who install the App. The App is not a storefront feature and does not collect personal information from your customers (see “Buyer data” below).

2. Information we collect

When you install and use the App, we collect and process the following, via the permissions you grant during installation:

  • Store information — your .myshopify.com domain, store name, and the store owner’s email address.
  • Shopify access credentials — the offline access token Shopify issues on install, which we store securely and use to call the Shopify Admin API on your behalf.
  • Product catalog data — product titles, descriptions, images, tags, product types, collections, and related metadata that we read in order to generate and publish AI content.
  • Brand & configuration data — the brand voice, tone, vocabulary rules, content sections, language selections, and automation rules you configure in the App.
  • Subscription & usage data — your plan, billing status (managed through Shopify’s Billing API), and counts of AI generations performed.

3. How we use information

  • To generate AI-optimized titles, descriptions, tags, and SEO metadata for your products.
  • To read your catalog and write approved content back to your Shopify store via the Admin API.
  • To provide, maintain, and improve the App’s features.
  • To manage your subscription, usage limits, and billing.
  • To diagnose problems and provide support.

4. AI processing and third parties

To generate content, product and brand data described above is sent to our backend service and to third-party AI/large language model providers that perform the generation. We share data with service providers only as needed to operate the App, including:

  • AI / large language model providers (to generate content from your product and brand data).
  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers (to run the App and store data).
  • Shopify (to read from and write to your store via its APIs).

We do not sell your data, and we do not use your product or store data to train third-party models beyond what is required to fulfill a generation request.

5. Buyer (customer) data

Catecut does not collect, store, or process personal data about your customers (buyers). The App operates on store- and product-level data only. We support Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks (customers/data_request, customers/redact, and shop/redact); because no buyer personal data is stored, customer data and redaction requests are acknowledged with no buyer records to return or erase.

6. Data retention and deletion

We retain your data for as long as the App is installed and as needed to provide the service. When you uninstall the App:

  • Your stored Shopify session and access token are deleted.
  • Shopify sends a shop/redact request (approximately 48 hours after uninstall), upon which we erase the store’s associated data, including product metadata and configuration.

7. Data security

Data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Access tokens and credentials are stored with access controls appropriate to their sensitivity. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we take reasonable measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction.

8. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond in accordance with applicable law.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by other appropriate means.
